Exploring the Genome
A number of themes emerge in the examination of the human
genome. This chapter presents several of these and
highlights sections of the text where interesting examples can be found.
In some cases, references are to specific genes rather than to other parts
of the work.
The chapter begins with sections on the basic features of the
genome at the DNA level and the major structural RNAs. Notable
aspects of gene organization and protein structure are presented. The
chapter also includes tables providing information about the set of
human proteins being used in the work. It concludes with a discussion
of the use of comparative genomics in the study of the human genome.
